The Great Grey Calculator Rescue

The Time I Went on an eBay Hunt for a Grey Weight Watchers Calculator

Not every job that lands on my desk is a big, dramatic one – and honestly, some of my favourite stories are the small, slightly unusual ones that remind me why I love what I do.

A few years back, I had a client down in England, a lovely gentleman who’d been losing weight steadily with Weight Watchers and swore by his little calculator to keep track of his points. One day, he called me in an absolute panic – his calculator had packed in, and he needed a replacement urgently. Simple enough, I thought.

Except it wasn’t.

Weight Watchers, it turned out, had decided to only manufacture their calculators in pink. And my client – a proud, no-nonsense sort of man – was not, under any circumstances, going to be seen walking around his local supermarket holding a pink calculator. Fair enough, I thought. A man’s got to have his dignity while he’s weighing up whether he can have the extra biscuit.

So I did what I do best – I got creative. A bit of digging around on eBay turned up not one but two proper grey Weight Watchers calculators, tucked away from years gone by. I snapped them up, and within 24 hours, they were on their way to him.

He was absolutely delighted – dignity restored, points back on track, and not a hint of pink in sight.

It’s a daft little story, but it’s exactly the kind of thing we love being asked to help with at Dickory Dock. No job is too small, too strange, or too specific – if it matters to you, it matters to us too.
