The Night I Packed a Client’s Suitcase for Her While She Was Still at Work
One of the things I love most about this job is that no two days — or requests — are ever quite the same. This is one of my favourite stories from over the years.
I called a client early one morning just to wish her a lovely holiday — she had a very early flight the next day and I wanted to check she was all set. Instead of the relaxed “all packed and ready” I was expecting, I got a slightly panicked voice on the other end of the phone. Between a demanding work day and an early morning flight looming, she hadn’t packed a single thing, and had no idea when she was going to find the time.
So I talked her through it, calmly. “Give me one minute,” I said, “just email me your shoe size, your clothes sizes, and whatever you’re missing — toiletries, sun hat, make-up, all of it.”
The email came through, and off I went. I headed straight into town and picked up everything on her list — a couple of bathing costumes, sandals, flip flops, a sun hat, toiletries, a sarong, the lot. Then I went to her house and laid it all out neatly on her bed, ready and waiting for when she got home late that night, exhausted from work.
I told her not to worry about anything she didn’t end up using — I’d pop back the next day after she’d left for the airport to return whatever wasn’t needed.
She made her flight with everything she needed, and had a wonderful, stress-free holiday. That’s really what it’s all about — taking the panic out of the moment, so our clients can just get on with enjoying their lives.
