Why We Rebuilt the Dickory Dock Website From the Ground Up
If you’ve visited our website recently, you’ll have noticed something different. An updated look. New pages. Far more information about everything we do. I wanted to explain why – because it’s a story with a bit of a twist to it.
What Happened
Earlier this year, someone compromised our old website. That’s not a nice thing to discover. If you run a small business, it’s probably one of your quiet worries too.
Looking back, it wasn’t really a surprise. The site had been running on very outdated versions of WordPress for too long. An old theme. Out-of-date PHP. It had served us well for years, but it hadn’t kept pace with how quickly things change online. That made it an easy target.
Meeting Chris at Black Sheep Digital
A mutual connection who works in IT put me in touch with Chris at Black Sheep Digital. Chris took one look at the old site and gave it to me straight: recovering the compromised content wasn’t really the point. With everything so out of date, patching it back together would only leave us vulnerable again down the line. The right move was to rebuild it properly, from scratch, on a modern and secure foundation.
A Fresh Start
So that’s what we did. Chris rebuilt the entire site on up-to-date WordPress, modern hosting, and a completely new design. One that actually reflects everything Dickory Dock has grown into over the years, rather than the much simpler business we were when the old site was first built.
We added proper pages for all nine of our specialist services. A testimonials page. A pricing page. Even a proper blog – the one you’re reading right now.
Was It Worth It?
I’ll be honest – I felt nervous going into it. A full website rebuild sounds daunting when you’re not particularly technical yourself. But Chris made the whole process straightforward. He explained things clearly at every step, and stayed patient through what felt like a hundred small questions and requests along the way.
The result is a website I’m genuinely proud of. One that does justice to over twenty years of Dickory Dock.
